Deadline to Register Republican: Friday, Jan. 25

Caucus: Saturday, Feb. 9

Your chance to vote for freedom and liberty is coming up soon! Kansas will hold its caucuses on Saturday, February 9. Kansans are very excited for their turn to cast their vote for Ron Paul, but there are a few steps you need to take first.

Kansas is a closed caucus state, which means that you have to be a registered Republican to vote for Ron Paul. The deadline to register as a Republican in Kansas is Friday, January 25.

Registering as a Republican is easy!

1) Print fill out the Kansas voter registration form: http://www.kssos.org/forms/elections/voterregistration.pdf

2) Physically bring it into your county elections office before or on January 25th. You will then get your voter card on the spot. Addresses and phone numbers for all the county election offices in Kansas can be found at this link: http://www.kssos.org/elections/elections_registration_ceo.asp

On Saturday, February 9th, caucuses begin at 10:00 AM CST sharp! Make sure you get to your caucus location by 9:30 AM CST to check in. If you live in Johnson, Sedgwick, or Shawnee County, check-in begins at 9:00 AM CST. You need to bring your driver's license or state ID. It is not required that you bring your voter card, but it is strongly recommended. If your ID does not have your current address, bring a piece of mail to prove your residency.

In Kansas, you will caucus in your congressional district. There are 4 congressional districts in Kansas and you can caucus at any location nearest to you. Here is a list of caucus locations by congressional district: http://ksgopcaucus.org/locations.htm

You can also call Annie Cassity at 1-913-963-6858 or e-mail her acassity@micoks.net if you have any questions.

Thanks for all the time and money you have dedicated to this campaign and preserving liberty.

Looking back and ahead

As you know, the caucuses in Kansas took place this past weekend, and although our candidate did not carry the day, we had a very respectable showing. On behalf of the entire Kansas organization, I want to congratulate Mike Huckabee on a well-deserved win in the caucuses.

Overall, Ron Paul finished with 11% of the vote statewide, and in places like Lawrence, he finished with over 20% of the vote. Even though it looks like the Mitt Romney vote in Kansas by and large went to former Gov. Huckabee, the feedback that I’ve been receiving from our county and district coordinators, as well as individual caucus speakers from throughout the state, is that many people in the caucuses who had never heard of Ron Paul before caucus day were very impressed with his message and although they voted for someone else, wanted to hear more about him and what he stands for. Make no mistake: This is a victory!

I sincerely want to thank all of you for the sacrifices you have made, the miles you have driven, and the time and money you have invested in getting the word out about Dr. Paul even though the mainstream media has fought tooth-and-nail to suppress and distort the message. You are all to be commended… but we’re not through yet.

The biggest question I’ve been receiving in the last few days since the caucuses is: What Now? Where do we go from here? I wanted to address this in three parts, because it’s essential that all of us know exactly where this revolutionary movement is going to lead. First thing’s first - Ron has made it perfectly clear, and did so again today, that he is in this race all the way to the convention. He has also ruled out, definitively, any third-party bid, and will remain a Republican. Now that we know both of these things, here’s what I believe our strategy should be.

1. Short term: Continue to work to get Ron Paul national delegates selected at the District and State GOP conventions. According to the http://www.ksgopcaucus.com website, the rules are as follows:

  • Each Congressional District committee will elect 3 delegates and 3 alternate delegates. (The Congressional District committee is composed of those people elected by their county precinct people to serve at the district level.) The district level delegates and alternate delegates are required to vote for the winner of the overall total of their Congressional District caucus. This meeting will be held prior to March 31, 2008.
  • The state committee will elect 24 at-large delegates and 24 at-large alternates during the summer meeting of 2008 (sometime in June). Each Congressional District is required to have equal representation from the at-large selections.

(By the way, if you have nominated yourself to be an RNC delegate, you have to remain a registered Republican until this process is completed in order for you to stay eligible to be selected!)

This step is critical if we want to have a voice on the floor of the Republican National Convention in September, regardless of whether the delegates are “bound” to vote for Huckabee or not. And, in the event of a brokered convention, these delegates could serve another purpose - to get Dr. Paul nominated.

2. Mid-Term: Continue to stay active in local and state politics.

If you don’t want to do this in the GOP, I completely understand - everyone needs to make their own decisions as to what would be best for them personally, and for some, working to start a new party or going to a third party will be the means to accomplish this.

However, if you decide to continue to work within the GOP structure, as I plan to do, I suggest that you take the following steps:

  • Volunteer for open Precinct Committeeman and Committeewoman positions in your precinct. Most of the people who run the party today started out this way.
  • Run for School Board, Planning Committees, and City Council seats. Build yourself a record as a party activist.
  • Get involved and active in your local, county, and state party organizations. Go to their meetings; get on their committees; meet and become friends with those in the party who we can work with to accomplish our goals. Remember: it’s a lot easier to attract people to our cause if we are nice to them and treat them as a friend instead of as an enemy.
  • Finally (if you feel you can handle it), run for State House and Senate seats.

3. Long-term: Work with us to identify 100 top-notch men and women of the highest character and strongest ethics, who have charisma, and who believe in and can articulate Dr. Paul’s small-government, pro-freedom, non-interventionist message in a way that the masses can understand and appreciate, to run for U.S. House and Senate seats over the next 2-4 years. Even if Ron Paul wins the presidency, he will need help to get his agenda passed - and that means that the big-government, anti-freedom “representatives” in Washington need to be defeated. If the incumbent is a Republican, run a “Ron Paul Democrat” against them. If the incumbent is a Democrat, run a “Ron Paul Republican” against them. Party affiliation is irrelevant - we are all AMERICANS and are sick and tired of the big-government policies of both parties.

So, that’s my thoughts. You are all welcome to add yours to the comments section of the blog at http://people.ronpaul2008.com/kansas/, or you can send me an E-mail or call me anytime. I look forward to continuing the dialogue as we work to bring the Hope and Freedom Revolution to Kansas and to all of the people of this country!

Precinct Leader sign-up party and training tomorrow night

posted on 02/04/2008 at 12:33 pm EST

Tomorrow night (Super Tuesday) at the Kansas State Headquarters in Shawnee (see below for address and phone), we will be having a special Precinct Leader Sign-Up Party and Training Event.  We have a goal to sign up 400 more Precinct Captains in the next 48 hours to win Kansas for Ron Paul, and you are invited!

(If you cannot make it, please consider signing up to be a Precinct Leader at voters.ronpaul2008.com ( http://voters.ronpaul2008.com/ ) - we need all of the assistance you can give in the next 5 days before the caucuses!)

We will have two one-hour HQ canvassing training sessions available, at 5:30pm and 7:00pm.  We will be phone calling in another room and we will be forming teams of 2-3 neighborhood canvassers to walk the streets of Johnson and Wyandotte County communities.  I fervently believe that if we can carry Johnson County, we will shock the world and win Kansas.  Please consider coming out and being a part of this event!

Bring something light to eat out to the event (a snack or dessert) and we will provide the beverages.  Come up to the HQ and be a part of the festivities - and then let’s go out and storm the 3rd District!

Stories from the Battlefield

I received this e-mail from our 1st District Coordinator, James Holland, who undertook an amazing endeavor and traveled all over District 1 delivering literature and signs to hundreds of Ron Paul supporters throughout western and Central Kansas this weekend. I believe that this message very aptly illustrates not only the spirit of the Ron Paul Revolution, but the diversity and the character of the people united under our cause. Enjoy!

Hello Ron Paul supporters of the 1st District!

Wow, what a weekend. As many of you know, Hank T. Hound and I traveled through the 1st District in 2 days delivering Ron Paul materials to cities from Ulysses to Marysville. I thank those of you who helped spread the word of the Ron Paul Revolution throughout the 1st District. I only wish we had more yard signs and buttons, but we made do and no one has gone without the necessary items to enlighten their friends and neighbors.

Along the way, I met a very diverse group of people who expressed hundreds of different reasons for supporting Dr. Paul and the message he is carrying for us. After meeting many of you, I’m humbled by our collective patriotism. We are working to save our nation through political means. Although the concerns expressed were as varied as the people I met along the way, one theme stood out in my mind. We love our country and are trying our best to bring it back to the principles that made it great. We are concerned about our country and that makes us patriotic… dare I say more patriotic than those under the spell of mass media and the mindless jingoism trance it has snared many of our countrymen in.

On a personal note, I grew a lot this weekend. I found out a lot about myself and about people in general. Over the next 5 days we will all grow and learn. Whether you are a precinct leader, caucus speaker, making calls or knocking on doors or trying to convince your family to vote for Ron Paul, we are all finding that our convictions allow us to do things we didn’t think we’d do before. Several times this weekend, I heard people say that… “I’ve never done this before…” or “I never thought I’d …” . Here we are with 5 days left to give a voice to Kansas on the critical matter of designating a republican nominee for President. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to wake up next Sunday morning wondering if I could have done more. Let’s give it our all and leave everything on the field.

Thank you for a wonderful weekend.

James Holland, Coordinator, 1st District

New Kansas State Campaign Headquarters

posted on 01/30/2008 at 9:15 pm EST

Today, we marked another turning point in the campaign to win the hearts and minds of Kansas GOP voters for Ron Paul. We have opened a new Kansas State Campaign Headquarters, located at 6840 Silverheel Street, Suite 104, Shawnee, Kansas (map and directions ). From this location, we will direct all field operations throughout the state of Kansas. We have a phone bank, pickup and drop off points for literature and signs, and space to conduct interviews with civic and party leaders as well as the news media.

This Friday, February 1, from 4:00-7:00pm, we will have a Grand Opening celebration at our headquarters. We are inviting the print and broadcast media, as well as local political figures, Kansas GOP leaders, and supporters from all over northeast Kansas. Food and beverages will be provided. We invite you to come out and join us Friday afternoon and be part of the celebration.

We are also expecting a massive delivery of almost 100,000 slim jims, 2100 signs, and many more bumper stickers and other pieces of literature tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon. If you need materials, please give our staff a call at the number below and we will reserve materials for you, and let you know when they come in. We will also be dropping literature to our supporters in western Kansas as well - give us a call and we will hook you up with materials.

We thank you for everything you have done for the campaign, for your patience, and for your steadfast belief in Ron Paul’s message of security, freedom, and prosperity. Let’s continue to work together to win the hearts and minds of Kansans for Dr. Paul!

Call to Action

posted on 01/29/2008 at 12:21 pm EST

Some of you may have been called by a representative of the campaign already regarding your participation in the campaign. Those calls are ongoing and you have not been contacted, you should receive a call in the next couple of days. In the meantime, I urge all of you to sign up TODAY to be a Precinct Leader in your local area (http://voters.ronpaul2008.com). This way, we know that you are committed to the campaign and want to work actively with the State Committee to get the vote out for Ron Paul.

We have been getting quite a few questions about what a Precinct Leader for Ron Paul actually does, and so I wanted to put together a quick Q&A that addresses these questions.

Q: Is being a Precinct Leader a full-time job?

A: Not at all. As a Precinct Leader, you would be working with the District or County Coordinator in your area to canvass your specific precinct (a precinct in Kansas consists of less than 1000 voters on average, and we will only be canvassing registered Republicans at this point, which cuts the number down to less than 400). As you will be supported by the campaign, you will not be doing the job alone.

Q: Am I the only one in my precinct who can be a Precinct Leader?

A: Absolutely not! Our Grassroots Central site at http://voters.ronpaul2008.com allows as many people in a precinct to be a Precinct Leader as they want. In fact, the more Precinct Leaders there are, the better, as we can work with groups of people to spread out the duties of canvassing. If we have 5 Leaders in a precinct, we can canvass 5 times as quickly - and possibly use those resources in other areas of need.

Q: Am I limited to doing work in just my precinct?

A: If you wish to canvass just your precinct, that’s fine. If, however, you want to canvass other areas, the campaign will work with you to place you in the areas with the most need of people to canvass.

Q: I cannot walk around very well due to health issues, and am not a great public speaker. How can I help the campaign as a Precinct Leader?

A: Just tell 5-10 of your friends and family about Ron Paul, and if you can, donate to the campaign at http://www.RonPaul2008.com/donate. Every little bit helps!

Winning Kansas for Ron Paul will take an effort from all of us. We hope that you will consider signing up to be a Precinct Leader today so that we can more effectively work with you to “be the media” and spread Ron Paul’s message of security, peace, freedom and prosperity to all of the Sunflower State!

It is time…

posted on 01/28/2008 at 11:38 am EST

Fellow Kansans, fellow Ron Paul supporters…

It is time.

It is time to take back our government - and the Republican Party - from the elite and powerful interests that threaten to destroy our sovereignty and the very existence of our Constitutional republic. It is time to end the apathy and complacency that has for far too long been the hallmark of our electorate. It is time to fight for the future of your children, and their children’s children. It is time to act, to run, to win Kansas for a great leader and a consistent Patriot, Dr. Ron Paul.

And we in Kansas are ready.  Are you?

In the next 24-48 hours, those of you who have opted to accept phone calls from the campaign will be receiving a call from your local congressional district or county coordinator.  They will ask you what your level of support is, and if you would like to lead efforts in your area to get Dr. Paul selected in the Kansas caucuses on February 9.  I encourage you to be open to helping out the campaign when they call.  You may think you are alone as a Ron Paul supporter, but nothing could be further from the truth - if you are receiving this, you are one of almost 3,000 confirmed grassroots supporters of Dr. Paul in this state!

I would encourage all of you in the meantime to register as a Precinct Captain at the following website: http://voters.ronpaul2008.com.  Here, you can obtain phone and walking lists, learn how to canvass, and be networked into other canvassers in your county and district.

I have listed your State Caucus coordinators below.  If you have any questions or need more information and do not wish to wait to be contacted, please feel free to give them a call; and, of course, my box is always open as well.

Annie Cassity - Kansas Caucus Coordinator           913-963-6858

James Holland - District 1 Coordinator                  913-522-6021

Joseph Martin - District 2 Coordinator                  785-341-8777

Michael Kerner -  District 3 Coordinator                913-488-8856

Tom Mendoza - District 4 Coordinator                  620-200-1208

Adam Wood - Douglas County Coordinator            785-760-2568

James Gragg - Sedgwick County Coordinator         316-200-3071

We appreciate what you have already done for the campaign.  Now it is time to win Kansas for Ron Paul.  Let it not be said that we did nothing!
