Campaign for President of the United States

HomeStatesPennsylvania

Welcome to Pennsylvania, birthplace of Ron Paul!

Pennsylvania was the cradle of the first Revolution. The unprecedented wealth that resulted from that event was made possible by one precious commodity - Freedom. The Commonwealth can again be a beacon to the world but we must first reclaim our heritage by electing Ron Paul to innaugurate a foreign policy of freedom, peace and prosperity.

Results of the April 22nd Pennsylvania GOP Primary:

Ron took 16% of the state's popular vote, comprising his best showing and showing the strength and passion of the Pennsylvania grass roots. McCain's vote was held to only 72.8%, sending a signal that Republican voters were not willing to close ranks around his candidacy (seen also in the Indiana and North Carolina primaries).

Listed in descending order, there were eight distinct areas of heavy support for Ron:
1 - Juniata, Perry, Lancaster, Dauphin, Cumberland, York, Lebanon, Adams - These counties comprised a region for meetup organizing purposes
2 - Berks
3 - Crawford, Venango
4 - Potter
5 - Northampton, Lehigh, Monroe
6 - Columbia, Wyoming, Luzerne
7 - Allegheny, Beaver
8 - Centre
Also in descending order, Ron's highest support by individual county was in Juniata 27.5%, Berks 25.6%, Perry 24.4%, Crawford 23%, Lancaster 21.8%, Potter 20.8% and Dauphin 20.3%. Other counties that exceeded Ron's 16% share of the state's vote included Cumberland, Lebanon, York, Venango, Northampton, Columbia, Adams, Wyoming, Luzerne, Erie, Allegheny Tioga and Monroe. Beaver tied the 16% state average.

Conversely, there were two isolated pockets of low support in the areas of Cameron and Bedford/Fulton that resulted from strong showings not by McCain but rather by Huckabee who had withdrawn from the race -- it was as though McCain lost those votes to a dead man.

For the Congressional District delegate vote, teams of grass roots supporters handed out independently-produced slate cards (aka Sample Ballots) at polling stations to promote delegate and alternate delegate candidates who would support Ron at the national convention. Results largely conformed to an historical pattern where the normal strength of top ballot positions is generally moderated if not trumped by the name recognition of politicians chosen by the GOP machine as candidates. Based on unofficial vote totals, five delegates and, depending on write-in results, twelve to fifteen alternates were elected for Ron. Unofficial vote totals are disclosed at www.ronpaulpa.com, an independent grass roots website that is not affiliated with, funded or controlled by Ron's official campaign. Additional delegates will later be identified who will publicly throw their support to Ron.

In conclusion, a Pennsylvania delegation of approximately twenty persons will represent Ron's message of peace, freedom and prosperity in St. Paul at the GOP national convention in September. Congratulations are in order for EVERY Pennsylvanian who supported Ron's campaign in myriad ways both large and small.

Your work for the primary election is done! Now we must all consider where we go from here. Elected delegates and alternates, up to two organizers from each meetup and county coordinators will commence planning in mid-June for the delegation's participation in the national convention and planning for other issues relevant to promoting the freedom movement in Pennsylvania.

Let it not be said that Pennsylvania did not engage in a Battle for Freedom.
